“Even though spanning a mere 16 sq m, the boathouse feels spacious and comfortable thanks to a neutral, calming colour and material palette, large windows that allow the eye to wonder, and a terrace. This is as close to a houseboat as you can get, without actually being on one — it even comes with its own boat.”

“Take a morning dip metres from the Copenhagen Opera House, watching the syn peep above the city’s skyline. A cross between a hotel and a houseboat, KAJ Hotel’s two-person property made from reclaimed materials can be found in water-bound neighbourhood Holmen, which was once used as a Royal Naval Base. Laze around in the blanket robes or use kayaks to explore further afield.”

“KAJ gives a taste of houseboat living (comfortable, cosy). North of Christianshavn, near Noma and CopenHill, it’s a sleek floating pod made with recycled materials, simply furnished with the softest linens and Danish flair — including a wishbone chair from which to watch the world go by. It comes with two kayaks for exploring the peaceful surroundings. Opened in September 2020, it has more of a self-catering than hotel feel — guests are equipped with DIY organic supplies including porridge, coffee and wine. There is a kitchenette, but with many great eating options near by (including Hart Bakery and Noma’s burger joint, Popl), it’s likely to remain squeaky clean.”
